It does work with my iPhone 3G, as well as the charging.
Improved sound quality.
Battery powered (optional)

The only downgrade with respect to past variants is the remote control:
Less intuitive buttons. Hard to operate in the dark
Reliant on Infrared, instead of the old RF. That means you need direct line of sight to the unit for it to work.

(REAL NAME) () This review is from: JBL On Stage IIIP movable Speaker Dock for iPod and iPhone (Black) (Electronics) I have owned older variants of the JBL On Stage line and this one was the best experience still. The sound made from this model is great and gets deafening enough without distortion to use in any environment. When you 1st dock an iPod or iPhone with it and begin playing, it starts out on a low volume setting so you must turn it up every time you dock it but it keeps you from being blasted out like the older models did. I have not bothered to use this one running on the six AA batteries since I have generally been someplace with AC power for it. I have only used this with the original iPhone. There are many changes Apple made to how the 3G iPhones charge that though they’ll play music through older devices, they will display an error message when you 1st connect them. With the original iPhone this speaker worked perfectly, though.

I use them all the time but I do not like to take the time to write one. I’m writing because I think this is a good product. Perfect, nearly. The sound quality is good. We bought it because we wanted something small that we could pack for vacations that had good sounds. This is comparatively small with a great sound that fills a room with clear sounds. My only complaint about is it has a nice small remote control. This is great and works good BUT it’s small and easy to loose. They could of used just a little engineering logic and put a small place in the base that it may be stored so it could be harder to get seperated from the base. Other then that, I greatly recommend this if you need a comparatively small unit with great sound. I take it out by our pool and it really projects and we have a noisy road behind my house.
